Here are my favourite web designs of 2009. They are all shops, and mainly high street. I do love the Emma Nygren blog design, but you can read more about that here.

1. American Apparel
I am a huge fan of American Apparel, and their branding is spot on. Their website is simple, like their clothes, but has everything you need. Clean, valid code and clean, accessible websites will be a big trend in 2009, and with any luck we have seen the end of “web 2.0″ trends like shiny buttons and reflections. Sure AA will go from strength to strength in 2009, and this was my favourite brand of 2009.

2. Net-A-Porter
Another site that has a great 2008. Design is spot on for the brand, and they are the most active company I know of in their digital PR efforts. (Hopefully) we will see more sites like this in 2009.

3. Topshop
I am a fan of the TopShop site, but it isn’t quite there for me. It seems to be so nearly great. You look at the AA or the Net-A-Porter site and they just seem to click, wheras this seems to have a bit too much going on, and it seems a design that has been added to and changed rather than a design that has been created.

* Alba Rosa
I had to put this in, its such a gorgeous site. I couldn’t get it to work perfectly, so there might be a slight accessiblity issue, but I don’t care, it looks bloody amazing. These full screen photo sites have been around for a while, and I think they will continue to feature in 2009. Fashion is all about imagery, and the photos are so good they often speak for themselves. New designers should study this site before starting a high end designer site.

I liked AA too! it’s simple but very useful!
